England T20 World Cup 2024 Squad: Jofra Archer Returns as Defending Champions Name Preliminary Squad
England T20 World Cup 2024 Squad: Jofra Archer, having recovered from his right elbow injury, returns to international cricket as England, the defending champions, announce their preliminary squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup and the preceding home series against Pakistan on Tuesday, April 30.
Jonny Bairstow and Reece Topley, who missed the last edition due to injuries, also make their comeback to the squad. Tom Hartley, the left-arm spinning all-rounder, earns his place as the only uncapped player in the 15-member group.
The squad, featuring ten players from the previous title-winning campaign, is set to compete in the USA and Caribbean in June. However, Ben Stokes has made himself unavailable for selection, while Chris Woakes misses out on a spot.
In the batting lineup, Phil Salt and Jos Buttler are likely to open, with Will Jacks and Jonny Bairstow competing for the number three position. Harry Brook is set to retain the number four spot, while Liam Livingstone and Moeen Ali will serve as spin-bowling all-rounders.
The pace-bowling all-rounder role is up for grabs, with Archer, Mark Wood, Chris Jordan, and Reece Topley vying for two spots in the final eleven.
Before departing for the T20 World Cup, England will host Pakistan in a four-match series, starting May 22. The squad will then fly to the Caribbean on May 31, preparing for their opening group match against Scotland at the Kensington Oval, Barbados, on June 4.
